Sally's Beauty Supply has really cheap bottles of nail polish with a special tip made for nail art. That's what i use to make really cute and hard nail designs.

If you have any old skinny markers that are dried out, you can dip them in the nail polish and draw on your nail with it. It works the same as the brush does. (: good luck! (:
