I know henna was used thousand years ago in many cultures. In China, people used impatients flowers and alum to color their nails red.





People did not paint their nails until 9120's when cosmetic became accepted and reliable and good quality nail polish was created.





Those intricate pictures on nails didn't appear until the last twenty years.
